How Did it All Begin?
established in 2015
Brae Cottage has lots of interesting history. First of all, the property is built on the grounds of Cupar Castle. So far, I have found no pictures of the Castle from the 13th century. It was probably a wooden castle built to defend St Andrews. The original walls of the castle still remain around the Burgh of Cupar and it is said that MacBeth killed MacDuff’s wife within the grounds of the Castle.
Brae Cottage was built using the Bell foundation and gifted to the Bell family. During the 1960’s the building was used by the NHS and had a dentist, podiatrist and speech therapist.
I purchased the building in December 2013. It was used by the council as offices for the housing team. It took over a year to restore the building into a bed and breakfast. With no experience at hosting guests I opened the doors in 2015 two months before The Open in St Andrews. The business has went from strength to strength and I love meeting people. I now have a business partner who helps with daily tasks and preparing breakfasts. In fact Bob is a chef, cleaner, gardener, builder, mechanic and anything else in between.
We look forward to your stay.
